Business Student Secures ICAEW Training Contract with Larking Gowen

We are pleased to announce that Conor Dale, a final year undergraduate student of our BA(Hons) Business Management programme, has secured a prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) training contract with Larking Gowen in Ipswich. Suffolk Business School prides itself on its ability to help create Business Ready Graduates. Conor’s success helps to illustrate our excellent employment/further study rate for our students after graduation, and the dedication of our lecturers in supporting the employability of our students.

Sophie Curle, Accounts Assistant at Larking Gowen, has expressed her company’s delight at this recruitment, and comments that:

We have attended numerous UCS events and found these to be a very helpful source of potential candidates. Larking Gowen can offer excellent long term opportunities within the competitive professional services sector and are keen to attract and retain the best local talent and support their career development in Suffolk.

Conor has also spoken of his enthusiasm and excitement at the opportunity, and thanks his course team and UCS for the support he has received:

During my time at UCS I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the course, and lecturers have made each module enjoyable in their own way. I received the support I needed at every stage of the application process to Larking Gowen from my tutor, Dr Atul Shah.

I chose a career in accounting because I enjoyed the accounting modules that I took immensely and excelled in them. These factors meant that it felt like the clear next step to pursue a career in accounting.

Dr Atul Shah, who has supported Conor in his application and interview, and in his finance modules at UCS, comments:

At UCS our approach is holistic – we want to help students get ignited from within, so that they make a great life career. And we support them in their career choice after graduation, not just leave them on their own when they graduate. We recognise that learning is not simply about facts and theories, but more importantly about motivation, meaning and purpose. Finance is a skill that every person needs to negotiate the complexities of modern life, and we help students build that knowledge with confidence.
